KS 2.0L B engine build

so i got to start on my 2.0L build today! it's going to be september before it finds itself sitting between frame-rails but everything has a beginning.

This is a P72 block, darton sleeves, PR4 crankshaft, eagle rods, and supertech 84mm pistons.

it's going to have a P30 head on it with P72 camshafts unless i find some P73 camshafts. down the road it's getting a P72 head with some work done and some kelford camshafts, but that's down the road.

so...PICTURES!

well...i paid more attention to my pictures than to the scale. the forgings are actually within .1g of each other. the pins are NOT, and the rings aren't. rings are easy. you can swap those around to balance them out, pins can be shaved, but WOW they are off! i have half a mind to order up two more sets of pistons with rings and pins to be able to balance them out and sell them as balanced sets. end state: whole piston assemblies that are within .1g of each other.

the pistons are 84mm bore and 5.5cc dome, so i'm going to run a rather thick head gasket to bring the compression down around 11.25:1. that's about as high as i'd like to go with OEM camshafts. this also allows me to run a thinner head gasket in the future and bring the compression up when i have aftermarket camshafts that create a little less dynamic compression.

ANYWAY. that's the start of my build 2.0L B build.

good info right there, if you have access to weigh the rods, that would be cool, i always wondered how good eagle rods are from factory.

good luck with the build, payin attention to small details matter a lot.

rods are actually weighed in an unusual manner since they are half rotating and half reciprocating. so you weigh and balance the ends separately.

btw - that was a quick "throw these on the scale" and by no means a balancing. once i get the block back from sleeving i will be balancing the rotating/reciprocating assembly.

had some time. did some swapping around. here's what i came up with:

there's one wrist-pin that's a bit lighter than the rest. i used the heaviest of the rings to compensate, but this is all going to end up getting re-balanced when i file the rings to the bore...hmmm.

either way. that's good enough for a street engine. it's honestly good enough for a race engine, but i build those to .1g. this one probably won't see anything north of 8500 RPMs. if this was a track engine, or a customer engine i'd call supertech and exchange wrist pins for ones that are closer in weight. i might give them a call ANYWAY.

since it was asked; these rods are all between 550g and 552g

this is, again, less important than the end-weights, but i'm not setting up my jig until i've got the block back from sleeving.
