LS/Vtec Internals, Build Help

Hi B20 Here's the question, I got a LS Block and crank, I was given a set of new P30 Sir2 Pistons Pressed on GSR Rods... and well I wanted to know if I can use those in my LS Block and crank and run a B16 Head safely or will I have clearance issues???? thanx

no the GSR rods are longer and will not work with LS crank. you'll have a negative piston-deck clearance height also.

negative piston-to-deck clearance means there is no clearance.... the piston will go above the block deck...

positive piston-to-deck clearance means that the piston is below the deck..

not accounting for the dome though of course.

no... you should check your info again...

as you can see from that picture a measurement from the block deck to the quench pad of the piston is the deck clearance measurement.

i understand where you're coming from... you think positive piston-to-deck clearance means that its positively sticking above the the block deck but its not...

one thing you have to understand is you're measuring CLEARANCE

if you have clearance its postive

if not its zero/negative.

United Engine and Machine Co.

"Piston Head Volume and Deck Clearance. Values for Piston Head Volume and Deck Clearance can be entered as both positive or negative values. Negative numbers indicate a reductions in cylinder head volume. Pistons with pop-ups or pistons sticking out above the deck will reduce chamber volume and would usually require a negative number. Pistons with a dish or pistons below deck increase chamber volume and receive a positive value. Located above each picture in the KB Catalog is the value for the piston head volume shown in positive or negative numbers."

heres another source you can check
Engine Builder's Handbook ... - Google Book Search

or team-integra.net
http://www.team-integra.net/forum/di...g+Common+Topic

you can even check a compression calculator
