great article, it really helps believe it or not, it's often great articles like this that persuade people like me(first timers) to purchase 600-750cc bikes rather than 1000cc and up....

i still have to go and get my license, and on h-t i've been hearing great things about the msf course, so i'm going to look in to the msf thing first.

i woudn't even recommend a 750 to a new(er) rider, since the new 750's are making a lot of hp.

new(er) rider + first bike = 600cc or smaller.

Well said my man. I can vouch from years of riding (Off-Road) that starting small is the best way to start. Dont listen to people that tell you to get a big bike to start with.

the only time im bored on my 600 is past 140. Because thats when the 1000's pass me. For the record in the quarter mile the new gixxer 600 is pretty much even thru the quarter. Now add 100-200 yards to the quarter and the 1000 just walks away from the 600 like its not moving but again we are talking about 140+ acceleration. Riding with my friends 1000 from a 40 roll my 600 will lead untl about 130 when the 1000 will walk right past me and stretch me as i top around 170 and he keeps going all the way to redline close to if not 200mph.

well now, don't get it twisted boomer, a stock gixxer 600 and a stock gixxer 1000 won't even be close through the 1/4 mile or during any sort of roll-on.

GSX-R600 ('06) 1/4 mile - 10.62 @ 130.5 60-80 - 3.72 80-100 - 3.75
GSX-R1000 ('06) 1/4 mile - 9.774 @ 148.69 60-80 - 2.46 80-100 - 2.57

Yea i own a k6 600 and have rode k6 1000's. The k6 1000 will walk the k6 600 all day, from idle all the way threw the powerband. Boomer have you ever ridden any 04 plus 1000's? I really dont think you have because you would know the k6 600 couldnt keep up with any newer 1k in the 1/4 mile. There is about a 2 second difference in 1/4 mile time between the k6 1000 and k6 600, the gap starts right off the bat. ah, i need to buy myself a 1k.
